Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT) is an eight-week program designed to develop the qualities of compassion, empathy and kindness for oneself and for others. This program was developed at Stanford University by a team of contemplative scholars, clinical psychologists, and neuroscience researchers. CCT integrates contemporary psychology and scientific research on compassion as well as traditional contemplative practices.
Cultivating compassion is built on the foundation that humans have a natural capacity for compassion. However, everyday stress, social pressure and life experience can make it difficult to fully express this capacity. Cultivating compassion develops the strength to be with suffering, the courage to take compassionate action when possible, and resilience in the face of life’s challenges. Cultivating compassion can also support one’s own health, happiness and well-being. Preliminary research suggests that CCT and similar programs can increase self-compassion and self-care, reduce stress and anxiety, and foster connection with others.
The 8-week course consists of two-hour weekly classes with a variety of activities supporting the cultivation of compassion. These activities include meditation, in-class discussions, in-class exercises and practices in your daily life.
Space is limited to 12 participants. We ask that participants commit to attending all 8 sessions.
